XIV International Conference of the European Society of Ecological Economics (ESEE 2022)
PISA (ITALY), JUNE 14-17, 2022
Between the 14th and the 17th of June over 500 scholars from all over the world will meet in Pisa for the XIV International Conference of the European Society of Ecological Economics (ESEE). The Conference has been organized by the Department of Economics of the University of Pisa in collaboration with the Research Institute on the Territory and the Environment “Leonardo”.
Will politicians be able to catch up with science and civil society?
What are the possible actions to escape the current unsustainable development paths?
These are the themes addressed during the duration of the Conference by scholars who have identified themselves as ecological economists for over thirty years.
The Conference will be an opportunity to discuss ecological transition, the topic at the core of the research in this sector. One of the central themes will be the political delays in the face of advances in knowledge. Indeed, it is the fiftieth anniversary of the first United Nations conference on the Human Environment, but politics is still slow to change pace.
The conference reports will be in English, and the meetings will also be open to the public (until seats are available).
Master’s lectures by leading scholars, Samuel Bowles from the USA and Joan Martínez Alier from Barcelona, and three plenary sessions on the future of energy, the centrality of communication, and experiences of sustainable finance, are scheduled.
During the “Question Time” event, which will be on the 16th of June at 5 pm, some Italian and European politicians – in presence or remote connection – will answer questions from members of civil society. Italian politicians like Enrico Letta and Giuseppe Conte will also speak.
The ESEE 2022 Convention is sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition, the Tuscany Region, the Municipality of Pisa, and The University of Pisa.
The closing of the event (the evening of Friday 17th June) will be dedicated to the “Games for Sustainability”. The event will be at the Stazione Leopolda in Pisa, and it will be open to everyone, including also only-Italian speakers.
